Q1: Can I visit your club as a Guest first?
You are most welcome to visit us as a Guest to experience our Chapter Meeting (See Q3). As space is limited, pre-registration is highly recommended (contact us).
We charge SGD10/- as guest fee in order to cover our rental and to provide some light refreshments.
The guest fee can be used to offset the membership fees if you decide to join us as a member.
Q2: How much are your membership fees?
There is a one-time initial registration fee of SGD40. Our semi-annual fee is SGD210 or you can opt for our annual subscription fee of SGD390 (save $30).
Fees go towards club operating expenses such as venue rental, meeting refreshments, and the annual Toastmasters International membership fee.
As a member, you will receive:
· "Pathways" Education Materials. This can be found on the Toastmasters International website at www.toastmasters.org
· Monthly "Toastmasters" Magazine. You will receive an e-copy of the Toastmasters Magazine from Toastmasters International.
· One to One Coaching. New members will be assigned a "Mentor" who is an experienced Toastmaster in the club. Your Mentor will guide you in preparing your first 3 speeches.
· Opportunity to Practice giving your Speeches in front of a live audience. The opportunity to deliver speeches is strictly a member's privilege.
· Opportunity to Develop your Leadership Skills. As you develop your speaking skills, your leadership skills will also improve with increased interaction within the club.
Q3: What kind of training will I receive at your club?
At Toastmasters, we learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Members use materials provided by Toastmasters International through participation in a chapter meeting.
Each chapter meeting gives members the opportunity to practice:
· Conducting meetings. Members will be assigned meeting official roles such as "Toastmaster of the Evening" (the Master of Ceremony for the meeting), Table Topic Masters, Time Keeper, Ah Counter etc. in order for them to practice leadership and parliamentary procedures in a formal business meeting.
· Giving impromptu speeches. Members present one-to two-minute impromptu speeches on assigned topics in a segment called "Table Topics".
· Presenting prepared speeches. Three or more members present speeches based on projects from the Toastmasters International Pathways Learning Experience. Projects cover such topics as speech organization, vocal variety , language, gestures, and persuasion.
· Offering constructive evaluation. Every prepared speaker is assigned an evaluator who points out speech strengths and offers suggestions for improvement.
Q4: What happens at each meeting?
A typical meeting lasts about two and a half hours and consists of the following:
Prepared speeches, based on projects from the Pathways Learning Experience, from several of the Club members.
A Table Topic session, giving members the opportunity to participate in impromptu speech situations. Guests are welcome to participate here.
An evaluation session, during which each speaker is provided with valuable feedback regarding the strengths of the speech and recommendations on improving future presentations.
Critique of the evaluations, and of the meeting as a whole, by a General Evaluator.
A short business session, which gives members a chance to practice parliamentary procedure.
Besides speaking, each member will also have the opportunity to serve as Toastmaster, Table Topic Master, Evaluator, Timer, General Evaluator, etc. Each assignment is rotated among members to provide a variety of experience.
